Fortunately, it's pretty easy to enjoy exploring Lake Travis real estate. This scenic region, located about 12 miles northwest of Austin Texas, has long been a desirable destination for residents and vacationers alike. The lake itself was created in the early 1940s, when future president Lyndon Johnson, then a member of Congress, decried the high rates of electricity in rural Texas.
He authorized the construction of Mansfield Dam across the Colorado River in 1942, forming the 63 mile long Lake Travis. Homes for sale on Lake Travis sit on the waterfront of this scenic lake that winds through Texas Hill Country, a backdrop that's known for its sunny weather -- more than 300 days of sunshine every year! -- and its myriad recreational opportunities.
Whether you prefer fishing, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, swimming, skiing, wakeboarding, or simply relaxing on the water's edge, the communities around Lake Travis make it easy to get out into the great outdoors. Lake Travis real estate is a golfer's paradise, too; with more than a dozen golf courses within easy driving distance, there are always links to play. Plus, the surrounding rolling hills offer hiking and biking trails, as well as peaceful spots to enjoy a picnic or a stroll.
Along with all of the outdoor attractions, the almost 13,000 residents that call Lake Travis home possess a full range of urban amenities, too. You can explore the shops and art galleries at the Hill Country Galleria and the Lakeway Commons, enjoy fine dining or a casual meal at one of the area's many eateries, or take in a local high school sports match. If you want to take in a concert, visit a museum or watch the performing arts, Austin's multi-cultural city amenities are just a short drive away.
Mick loves Austin. Though he wasn’t born there, he will tell you that his hometown is Austin. “I wasn't born in Austin, but I’ve been here for about a quarter century and Austin - in my heart- is my hometown.”
Like many other markets in Texas, the Lake Travis real estate market hit a low point in 2009. Fortunately, it's well on its way to recovery, and the local economy is following suit as more residents move to the area and job opportunities continue to expand, both locally and in nearby Austin.
In recent years, the number of residential building permits for the region has increased significantly, as has real estate sales volume, which grew by 35.6 percent from 2012 to 2013. As of late 2013, the average listing price in Lake Travis was $816,122, the median listing price was $426,100, and the median home value was $309,000 -- all representing upswings over 2012. It's not hard to see why Mick Hooper loves Lake Travis so much; when it's time for you to explore Lake Travis real estate, call Mick and he may well take you out on a tour of Lake Travis in his "office".
